Energy.

"Chaos and riots" - if only the assortment of punky/ grungy/ gothy/ other thingy young people had this sort of spirit all the time. Pop Will Eat Itself put on an ace show - Clint and that other singer guy realy stole all of the stage (frankly the other band members weren't even all that interesting to look at.)

Little me who was expecting something a bit different was surprised to find the live PWEI sound very similar to the pre-recorded. They played most all the songs pretty much verbatim as recorded on the albums - not that that detracted from the perfrmance, which can only be described as stunning. PWEI's music displays an original , unique and innovative mix of musical styles - the stage show reinforces and refines this synthesis.

Clint's invitation to "shake what yer got," for the funky familus horribilus went sadly without much response - there are those who will do nothing but mosh. (My vague dissapointment at this bit contrasts with the brilliance of the rest of the show.) Part of the credit I think does lie with the crowd - a realy receptive bunch who got int the spirit of things admirably.

The encore` was short - like two songs - but after the first I was pleading in my head "don't play anymre, I'm about to collapse, I'm hot, I'm wet, I'm dripping with other people's sweat, Iwant to go home...".

It was good.
